Hogwarts House Quiz Explained

We won't be putting a hat on your head to tell you which Harry Potter house you should be in. However, just like the Sorting Hat, we will put you in a house according to the personality questions you answer. Don’t worry, it’s not like a high school test; there are no wrong answers.

The primary goal of this Harry Potter House quiz is to let you see the cardinal trait of your personality. With each question you will be closer to finding out what Hogwarts House you belong to.

If you have both Slytherin and Gryffindor characteristics but care more about being optimistic than courageous, you will get Slytherin. On the other hand, if you’re loyal and smart and your main concern is intellect, you will end up with Ravenclaw.

What Harry Potter House Are You In?

Hogwarts has four houses, each according to the last name of its founding member. They are Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw. The students are sorted into different houses based on their values, personality, and motivations by the Sorting Hat. While we don’t have a Sorting Hat to give you, our Harry Potter house quiz is the next best thing.

Throughout the school year, the houses compete with each other for the House Cup. They gain and lose points according to their actions like rule violations and performance. The winning house gets its colors on display in the Great Hall that school year. The houses also compete with each other for the Quidditch Cup.

Unique Harry Potter Houses

All of us have our favorite house, but that doesn't necessarily mean we belong there. Read on to learn more about the different houses before taking our quiz.

Gryffindor

Gryffindor seeks courage, bravery, and chivalry in its members. It was found by Godric Gryffindor and is represented by fierce red and gold colors. Fan-favorite Minerva McGonagall was the former head of Gryffindor.

The house corresponds to fire, and its famous members are true to this element. Dumbledore, Harry Potter, the smart Hermione Granger, and the red-haired Weasley family all belong to this house. Additionally, the beloved Nearly Headless Nick is the House Ghost.

Hufflepuff

If you’re a person who values dedication, patience, hard work, fair play, kindness, and loyalty, then you belong in Hufflepuff. It is the most inclusive Hogwarts House due to these values. The house’s colors are yellow and black. Yellow represents wheat, while black is emblematic of soil. The head of the house is Pomona Sprout.

Founded by Helga Hufflepuff, the house corresponds to the Earth. The welcoming and cozy common room describes a Hufflepuff member’s personality as well. Some of the most loved characters come from this house, like Cedric Diggory and Artemisia Lufkin (the first female Minister of Magic).

Ravenclaw

Knowledge, creativity, curiosity, intelligence, and wit. Those are the most common traits shared between Ravenclaw members. The house was founded by a medieval witch Rowena Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw is easily recognizable by its signature Eagle, as well as its blue and bronze house colors.

Ravenclaw has had its share of famous people like the weird but lovable Luna Lovegood and Gilderoy Lockhart (who might not be the smartest crayon in the box). Its former members’ list also includes Garrick Ollivander, the owner of Ollivander’s.

Slytherin

In a world divided between good and evil, Slytherin is often seen as a mean house with “bad” people. It was found by Salazar Slytherin and is recognized by its silver and emerald green colors. Slytherin values leadership, ambition, cunning, self-preservation, and resourcefulness.

Considering those traits, it’s no surprise that many Death Eaters like Tom Riddle, Lucious Malfoy, and Bellatrix Lestrange were in this house. Severus Snape, the grim and hated professor, was the head of the house until Horace Slughorn took over.
