Rick

Dimension C-137 Rick. The most intelligent, science-obsessed maniac, Rick had a knack for inventing things from a very young age. He is the protagonist of the show whose only wish is to be reunited with his family. 

His eccentric adventures begin with his side-kick Morty, as they travel from one dimension to another, facing dangerous monsters and forming new friends. Often Rick's nihilism, unstable mental health, God complex, and aggressive streak are illustrated in the show.

Morty

The dimwitted, younger child of Beth and Jerry. Morty's sole purpose as a side-kick, later revealed in the show, is to mask Rick's highly intellectual brainwaves with his dumber ones. In this manner, the Ricks of other dimensions will be unable to track him down.

Despite his Grandfather's insults, Morty is a loyal and ideal side-kick. He is always up for an adventure, doesn't pester his uncle too much, and never leaves his side.

Beth

Beth had a difficult childhood. Rick wasn't your ordinary dad and that affected Beth greatly. However, that doesn't mean that Rick wasn't trying. For example, he built her an entire playground, Froopyland, where she could have fun safely. But her propensity to danger counter-attacked Rick's plan.

Thus, it is insinuated that he bore some resentment toward her. She, on the other hand, developed daddy issues. And chose a beta male to settle down with her. Hence, she has the upper hand in her marriage, which satiates her superiority complex and fear of abandonment. 

Jerry

A loving husband and the high-school lover of Beth. The two got married at the age of 18 after finding out that Beth is pregnant. The often confused and purposeless man struggles to find and keep a job, allowing Beth to take charge of the relationship. 

He is constantly bullied by his father-in-law, Rick who mocks him for being dumb and lacking ambitions. But Jerry is willing to put up with him for Beth’s sake. Hence, making him a simpleton who chooses his wife above everyone else. 

Summer

The seventeen-year-old, slender and self-reliant character is the first-born daughter of Jerry and Beth. Her self-reliance stems from her parents experimenting with a parenting style that would not coddle her with support and love, unlike Morty, who was treated like a baby way past the toddler phase. 

She’s an insightful individual and understands that her mother initially wanted to abort her and that Rick and Morty share a stronger bond than she has with the two of them.

Birdperson

The human cyborg, Birdperson met Rick at a music festival. Their kinship is based on sincerity and loyalty. They are completely invested in being there for each other in times of need. Rick helped Birdperson to fight the Galactic Federation, which was bent on eliminating cyborgs of his kind. He also helped retrieve Birdperson’s conscience mind, consequently unraveling details about his past in the process. 

They quickly shared a strong bond – especially after winning their war against the Federation. But unfortunately, Birdperson could not join Rick in his adventures since he was the sworn protector of his kind. 

It deeply affects Rick as he hasn’t found anyone worthy of friendship as Birdperson in a long time. This a huge compliment for the latter since Rick is quick at dismissing others as imbeciles who are beneath him.
