What Is Skolisexuality?

Skolisexuality is one of the lesser known sexualities. Despite that, there is a lot of controversy surrounding it in the LGBTQ+ community. Skolisexualiy refers to people who are attracted to a person who identifies as transgender, non-binary, or in some cases, anyone who isn’t cisgender.

There is a lot of controversy about the term skoliosexual due to its meaning. The prefix “skolio” means “crooked” in Latin. Therefore, describing someone’s sexual orientation by calling it skoliosexual might imply that it is crooked or wrong. For this reason, the term ceterosexual is preferred by many.

What Sets Ceterosexuality Apart

Ceterosexuality is a unique type of sexual orientation and it shouldn’t be confused with pansexuality or bisexuality. A person who identifies as pansexual is attracted to another person for their vibes, personality, or something else without caring about their gender. Thus, someone who is pansexual can be attracted to any gender identity which isn’t the case for ceterosexual individuals.

Moreover, ceterosexuality is often confused with bisexuality due to the prefix bi meaning two. Many choose to interpret that because a ceterosexual person is attracted to non-binary and trans people they should be identified as bisexual. However, bisexuality isn’t limited to just two genders. In addition to that, bisexual people are usually attracted to someone of the same gender identity as them. In contrast, that’s not true for ceterosexual people.

How Can I Know If I am Ceterosexual?

There is no foolproof way of knowing if you are ceterosexual or not. You will have to keep your ears and mind open when exploring different aspects of this unique sexual orientation. That being said, most ceterosexuals are transgender people. Nevertheless, that is not a strict rule as cisgender people can identify as ceterosexual as well. The great way of checking if you are ceterosexual or not is by taking this quiz.

Where Can I Learn More?

If you are still unsure if this label fits you, there are different resources you can check to learn more about it. Firstly, we would recommend communicating with ceterosexual people through forums or other communities. Listening to their stories and experiences may help you understand more about your own sexuality.

Next, talk about your thoughts and feelings to someone you trust. If you don’t have anyone you can disclose such personal thoughts to, search for a therapist. They will guide you as you learn about your sexuality.
