What Do MLB Logos Represent?

Regardless of the sport, logos have a major impact on the branding of the team. It is usually the first thing a fan sees on the team’s jersey or a cap. But there is more to it. Some logos represent a city or even a state. For instance, The Rockies logo has a mountain shape in the background that instantly reminds fans of the Rocky Mountains.

What Sets MLB Logos Apart?

Every team aims to have a unique and memorable logo. They experiment with different shapes, colors, and structures. However, not all of them succeed in creating the perfect logo. Some logos are simple, some are downright weird, while others are timeless icons.

Some teams, such as The Reds, have changed their logos numerous times throughout the team’s history. And yet, their latest design is nothing to write home about. The mascot name surrounded by the city initials might work, but not with the palette The Reds chose. 

The next disappointing logo belongs to the Braves. In a sport as competitive as baseball where everyone is trying to get even a slight advantage, Braves dropped a ball when it comes to their logo. Their “A” logo is underwhelming and doesn’t stand out. 

Astros have a passable logo that consists of the letter “H” on a star. But, considering the rich history of the city of Houston, as well as the possibilities that the name Astros gives you, there is a lot left to be desired with this logo.

On the other side of the coin, we have some of the most memorable logos. The New York Yankees have used their logo for over 70 years. As per the Bleacher Report, it occupies the third and fourth place of the best MLB logos in the entire history of the sport.

The Brewers are another team with an excellent logo. The “MB” is portrayed in the shape of a baseball glove. Its elegance and creativity make it one of the best MLG logos out there. One of the past iterations of their logo remains one of the most iconic logos in the whole sport. It was a keg swinging a baseball bat.
