What Are Delusions?

Delusion is a type of mental illness. People suffering from this disorder can’t tell what’s real and what’s imaginary. They have an unshakeable belief in something that isn’t true or real.

The most common delusions are non-bizarre. They are delusions that involve situations that can occur in real life. For example, they can believe they’re being followed, or loved from a distance. However, these situations are exaggerated or completely untrue. They occur when a person misinterprets their experience.

Majority of the people with delusional disorder can function normally. Apart from their delusions, they don’t behave in any unusual manner. But, in some rare cases, they can get preoccupied with their delusions to the point their life gets disrupted.
