The History Of the NBA

NBA was established way back on June 6, 1946, in New York City. Back then, it was known as the Basketball Association of America. During the initial years, the quality of the game in BAA was not as good as in other leagues back in the day. However, in 1949, the BAA merged with the NBL teams, changing the league’s name to the National Basketball Association.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the record for most MVP awards at six, and he is closely followed by Michael Jordan, who won the MVP award five times during his career. Most of the greatest players to ever touch the basketball court were usually part of the NBA at some point in their career. Names such as Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russel, Shaq will be recognizable even to people that aren't basketball enthusiasts.

The modern game came in its shape when the 3-point line was introduced to it during the 1979 – 1980 season.
