Early Life

Lebron Raymone James Sr. was born on December 30, 1984, in Akron. Coincidentally, his biggest rival throughout the latter part of his career, Stephen Curry, was born in the same hospital as him. He grew up in rough conditions without a father. He started playing organized basketball in the fifth grade.

St. Vincent-St. Mary High School

LeBron attended St. Vincent-St. Mary High School alongside the friends he played AAU with. Standing at 6-foot-2-inches, he averaged 21 points and 6 rebounds in his freshman year. Next year, his numbers improved to 25.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 3.8 assists. There was so much buzz about the young phenom that the team had to play at the University of Akron’s Rhodes Arena to meet the ticket demand.

The summer before his junior year, LeBron grew up to 6 feet 7 inches. Slam magazine dubbed him the best high school basketball player in America. On top of that, he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated. He finished his high school career averaging 31.6 points and 9.6 rebounds. Lastly, his athletic abilites were so otherworldy he was even recruited to play football at Notre Dame.

First Stint With Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron was drafted as a first overall pick in the 2003 NBA by his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers. In his debut, he scored 25 points. He improved the Cavaliers’ record by 18 wins, however, their season tally of 35 wins and 47 losses was not enough to make playoffs. His stellar debut season earned him the Rookie of the Year award.

He spent the next several years improving his game, as well as his team’s record. His efforts were validated with the MVP award in 2009 and 2010. Despite having regular season success, post-season one eluded James and his Cavaliers.

The Decision

He entered unrestricted free agency in 2010. LeBron announced he would be teaming up with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in the Miami Heat through a TV special titled The Decision. His move was heavily criticized by sports analysts, executives, and even the fans.

That said, the move to join the Heat was an immediate success. The team went to the NBA finals in the first year together, coming just short against Dirk Nowitzki-led Dallas Mavericks. The Heat would go on to win back-to-back championships in the following years.

The King Is Coming Home

With nothing left to prove, LeBron signed back with the Cavaliers in the 2014-15 season. They went to the finals the same year, making LeBron the first player ever to play in 5 consecutive finals. Sadly, they lost against Golden State Warriors who they would meet many more times.

In 2015-16, he beat the 73-9 Warriors to win the Cleveland Cavaliers the franchise’s first NBA championship title. 2016-17 and 2017-18 were again rematches were the Warriors, with the latter coming on top both times.

Move To The LA

Like many other greats, LeBron decided to wear purple and gold in his third unrestricted free agency. He was injured for most of the 2018-19 season and the team missed the playoffs. However, just the next year, he led the team to the NBA championship, securing himself a fourth ring. In 2022, he surpassed great Kareem Abdul Jabar and became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
