Regarded as one of the best TV shows on Netflix by numerous critics, Dark is still attracting new viewers even years after the show ended. The show is full of twists and turns that will keep you at the edge of your seat at all times. 

After the disappearance of several children, few people learn about the possibility of time travel. We follow their journey through time while they try to stop the evil that is glooming over Winden. Jonas

At first, Jonas appears to be just an innocent teenage boy. His father Michael took his own life recently and Jonas was still mourning. Not long after that, he receives a note from his father that starts unraveling everything that has been happening in Winden. Jonas quickly moved on from dealing with a love triangle involving Martha and Bartosz to learning about time travel.

His older self taught him how to do it and even stopped him from taking Mikkel back to the present. It is hard to describe Jonas as he evolves a lot during the show. We can see him at three stages of his life at all times. Firstly, as a teenager, then as an adult, and lastly as an old man, better known as Adam. 

He is confused and unsure about his feelings towards Martha, who gets revealed as his aunt later on. While he wants to protect the city and his loved ones from the catastrophe that bestows on Winden, at the end of his life he fights to protect the loop.

Claudia

Her opponents refer to her as The White Devil. She is the daughter of police officer Egon and his wife Doris. She grew up to be a strong woman and became the first female director of Winden’s nuclear power plant. She discovered time travel by accident after finding her childhood dog Gretchen in the caves.

She is the main opponent of Sic Mundus and the main person that manipulates the events that unfold. Claudia wants to save her daughter Regina from dying after she finds out Regina has terminal cancer. 

Martha

In the same way that Jonas is being used by Claudia and the future versions of himself, Martha is being used by her older versions as well. They try to manipulate her to control the events in the Knot with the help of Jonas. 

She briefly joined Sic Mundus before getting recruited back to Erit Lux by Eve, her older self. In the original world, she is traumatized, stressed, and lost after her brother's disappearance. To make things worse, she cant choose between Jonas and Bartosz leaving her to deal with everything on her own.

Bartosz

Bartosz is a loyal friend and a caring boyfriend. He feels betrayed once Jonas and Martha start avoiding him. Noah recruits him to Sic Mundus by showing him the future events. He plays a crucial part in the story due to the suitcase Noah gave him. It allows him and his friends to travel back in time and keep the loop going.

He was unhappy being stuck in the past, but he found comfort after meeting Silja. Together they had two children, Hanno and Agnes. Sadly, Silja died during childbirth. A decade later, young Noah sealed Bartosz’s faith by murdering him with a pickaxe.

Ulrich

While he was a kid, Ulrich was a troublemaker. There is a high chance that the disappearance of his brother Mads is to blame. However, he grew up to become a police officer and was determined to do good. 

On the surface, he is a loving husband who cares deeply about his family. The truth is a bit darker. He is having an affair with Hannah. He cracks mentally after his youngest son Mikkel disappears. His behavior gets him suspended from the police force and he starts an investigation on his own.

While following Helge, Ulrich finds the tunnel that leads to the past and tries to kill Helge while he’s still just a young boy. Ultimately he fails and Helge survives. Egon arrests him and he is put in the mental asylum. He’s visited by Hannah and his wife Katharina.

H.G. Tannhaus

There’s little known about H.G. Tannhaus. He is a clockmaker from Winden and Charlotte’s grandfather. He wrote the book “Journey Through Time” which is referenced all throughout the show. It describes black holes, space-time, and various topics about time.

Both Claudia and Jonas make multiple visits to him in order to understand time better. He even builds “apparatus” for them which allows them to travel through time without the use of the cave tunnel. He is content with the inability to fully understand space and time. Furthermore, he is not interested in what the future holds. It is only revealed at the end that he created Adam and Eve’s worlds by accident.

Noah

Noah is just another pawn in the big war between Sic Mundus and Erit Lux. His loyalty lies with Adam. He obliged even when asked to kidnap innocent boys for time travel experiments. His ultimate goal is reuniting with his family Elisabeth and Charlotte and believes that Adam can give him that.

He is the first child of Bartosz and Silja. He kills his father with a pickaxe after realizing that he doesn’t believe in Jonas’s promised paradise. All his life Noah thought he was fighting for the right side. Noah was sure that any evil committed is forgiven because it will lead to a greater tomorrow.
