What Is a Bi-curious Test?

There is a lot of pressure on the bi-curious folk from the queer community to choose their sexuality. This quiz will try to provide a safe space for everyone trying to learn more about their sexuality.

The test consists of 20 questions that will help you discover how bi-curiosity resonates with you. It is important to note that the topic of sexuality is very intimate and personal. Remember that nobody, this quiz included, can tell you what to feel or identify as.

What Is Bi-curiosity?

Simply put, bi-curiosity is a label used by someone who is open to exploring romantic or sexual relationships with a person who is of a different gender than their usual partners. The term is usually used by someone who is questioning their sexuality but isn’t ready to come out. For example, someone who identified as heterosexual in the past may embrace this term while exploring bisexuality.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the term was first used in 1984. It gained popularity in the mid-90s with the rise of bisexuality. Today, more than half of the LGBTQ+ community identifies as bisexual. On the other hand, bi-curiosity is much less popular. There is a stigma surrounding the term because some people believe it’s discriminatory implying that a person needs sexual experience to be bisexual.

Moreover, bi-curious people are less open about their sexuality due to the lack of acceptance from the queer community. They feel like a person should be more specific with their sexual identity, the opposite of what bi-curiosity stands for.

Am I Bi-curious or Bisexual?

The first problem many people face with bi-curiosity is the denial of their sexuality. The popular notion is that every person who identifies as bi-curious should be bisexual. However, there is a clear line between the two terms.

Bisexual people are attracted to multiple genders. Whereas, bi-curious people are still exploring and dabbling in their sexuality. They’re not sure if bisexuality or some other term is right for them. Often, bi-curiosity is a step that comes before embracing bisexuality. Of course, that is not true for everyone. Some people keep their bi-curious label, while others can eventually identify with another sexuality.

There is a lot of stigma associated with the term bi-curious. Bi-curious people are pressured by the queer community to choose their identity. But, sexual identity and orientation are unique and personal things.
