While LaRusso was the protagonist & Lawrence was the antagonist, their positions aren't as distinct in the series. The two continued to have personal conflicts, but they have tried to see past them on several occasions.

Daniel LaRusso

Daniel LaRusso was a rival of Johnny Lawrence in The Karate Kid trilogy. Daniel met his wife Amanda just after the events of Karate Kid Part III, they have two children, and he now owns one of California's most prestigious car dealerships. His life of wealth and prosperity is opposed to Johnny's, and this contrast, combined with the philosophical differences between their masters, keeps them at odds.

After Johnny opens Cobra Kai Dojo, Daniel mirrors his move and starts the Miyagi-Do Karate. He can't stand seeing Cobra Kai prosper and doesn't believe anyone associated with it can change. Instead, he gives potential students another way to learn karate. The one that he was taught by Mr. Miyagi.

Johny Lawrence

Johny Lawrence was Karate Kid's most hated villain. Cobra Kai shows him in another light and quickly makes him one of the watchers' favorite characters. He's a middle-aged man who happens to have reached his pinnacle in high school. After having met Miguel and training him how to defend himself, Johnny understands that coaching Karate is his calling, and he decides to become a mentor to Miguel and the other students at Cobra Kai.

Johnny will have to deal with the changes within his students once his former sensei, John Kreese, re-enters the picture. Some of the students eventually prefer Kreese's rougher techniques.

Miguel Diaz

Miguel Diaz is a high school student and Johnny Lawrence's next-door neighbor. When Johnny watches Miguel being jumped, he intends to take him underneath his wing and make him the new Cobra Kai's first student. Miguel and Johnny share a strong bond and are always looking out for each other. Miguel is eventually able to retaliate thanks to Johnny's guidance. He motivates the "nerds" to join Cobra Kai and study self-defense, resulting in his victory in the All-Valley tournament.

Samantha LaRusso

Samantha LaRusso is Daniel's daughter and is involved with Miguel. Their connection is exacerbated by the fact that they are stuck in the middle of Johnny and Daniel's antagonism. As Sam grows closer to Johnny's son, Robby Keene, she finally joins her dad's new Miyagi-Do dojo, which leads to even more trouble.

Robby Keene

Johnny's kid, Robby Keene is welcomed by the LaRusso family. Robby's mother wasn't around enough to raise him properly, and Johnny has never been in his life. Robby was changing because of the LaRussos' goodwill but that didn't last. Following a fight with Miguel, he gets arrested for assault. Not knowing where to go he runs into John Kreese,  who helps him embark down the dark path, just like Johnny did in the 1980s.

Eli 'Hawk' Moskowitz

Eli Moskowitz, like Miguel, is a harassed adolescent who finds his self-confidence after joining Cobra Kai. Unfortunately, the newer Eli channels his wrath into a fake swagger, turning him into the bully he was attempting to confront not long before.

Hawk soon rises to the top of a Cobra Kai student ranks. He begins to choose battles, relishing the opportunity to fight someone. After most of his friends have left, he starts to suspect Kreese is a psychopath. He changes his habits and joins the new Eagle Fang & Miyagi Do dojo with the others.
