What Are Quirks?

So you may want to know; what exactly are quirks? A quirk is a superhuman ability that a person might possess or develop over time. The specialty is that one person can only possess one superhuman ability and be an expert at it. 

So, for example, you may have the power to stop time, and you may be able to do that whenever you want, but at the same time, you may not know how to convert a human into a frog. We will be explaining some of the quirks below; read along!

Plus Alpha

The term Plus Alpha refers to the collection of a person's genetic and physical traits that enable the person to develop a certain quirk.

Heredity

Quirk's can be inherited from a child's mother, father, or a combination from both the parents. This is known to be done through the Mendelian inheritance. Heredity tends to explain how a child may have similar quirks to his/her parents, siblings, and extended family members. 

In some cases, abnormalities caused by quirks could also pass on to children due to heredity. Overall, heredity turns out to be a good thing as it passes on parents' quirks to children and gives birth to new quirks by mixing those of both of the parents.

Awakening

Later in life, after the first Quirk manifestation, the person may experience an awakening. An awakening is when quirks evolve on the spot if the correct emotional spark is used. As a result, the person's Quirk gains a new level of power and new aspects of its essence that were previously unavailable.

Quirk Laws

Preserving order and laying down a set of rules for discipline is important in all kinds of societies, superhuman or not. Hence, several quirk laws are listed below, laid out for a reason stated above.

• Public showcasing of quirks is against the law.
• You can not use your quirks to harm others.
• Citizens are required to have their quirks registered with the Government.
• Children are required to receive quirk education in elementary school to learn how to use their quirks responsibly.
• Aspiring Pro Heros must undergo training during their high school years and receive licenses that enable them to use their quirks.
• Using quirks while unlicensed is punishable under the law.

Quirk Types

Quirks come in several different types, which can be divided into a few main categories; we will be explaining these in the parts below.

Emitter

This type of Quirk consists of skills that enable the user to create and maybe control objects and affect things already in their environment in certain ways. 

Transformation

This type of quirks involves skills that allow the user to change in some way for a short period. These quirks allow the user to alter their body in various ways, sometimes improving existing features, sometimes deleting features, and sometimes introducing entirely new features to the body.

Mutant

These abilities cause a permanent abnormality in a user's body, which would be directly related to their ability to use their Quirk.
